Why is this a subject for me? Because I have experienced a slice of a new level of awareness in which I sense in my being, beyond mental babble, that all is illusion.
Using my mind to dissect this feeling further, I see that the being known as Satan, Maya, The Devil, and other various names is simply a master of illusion. He knows that life is but a dream at a deep level, and uses this knowledge to manipulate the ignorant into creating hellish realities for him. He will use any tactic to get his prey to believe that this is all real, and that they are powerless against him.
However, since Satan is master of illusion, nothing could be further from the truth. He is, in fact, infintely WEAK. Why? Because like all things, Satan is an expression of the Creator, but because Satan thinks himself the enemy of the Creator, it is safe to assume that he HATES the Creator within himself. In hating himself, he denies his true divine power, and because he is so polarized in his hate, he becomes completely powerless. Nevertheless he retains his knowledge of the nature of reaity, and understanding it is completely fake, he seeks out those with tremendous creative potential, and plots to make them ignorant of how existence really works, if they are not already.
To make powerful creators ignorant, Satan must implant a special tool: fear. Fear is as illusory as the Devil himself. It is the false premise or excuse that something is more powerful than you, and thusly you must give you power to it. The irony is that Satan is POWERLESS! And when you give your power to him, that is the only power he has. But Satan is also a magician. He pulls those sleight-of-hand tricks all the time to get you to give him your creative power--the very same power that he has denied within himself.
But why does Satan feel the need to manipulate? Satan is but a step away from creating his own paradise as a fully-realized Divine Being. BUT. Satan himself is AFRAID of this state of awareness. Yes, he has fear. He fears he will not exist, because, of all his wealth of knowledge into the workings of reality, he firmly believes in separation. He wants to always exist as he is, and not to merge into BEING that he TRULY is. He also thinks he doesn't deserve this awareness, though he's way too proud to admit it. So he takes his own fear of true realization and implants it into beings that are less knowlegable than he. If the beings are not AWARE, they can be easily deceived, and Satan has the go-ahead to create hell whereever he 'goes'.
Of all these things I have told you, this last point will shock you: SATAN IS US. How could anything else be true? How would he know what to tempt you with? How would he know your weaknesses, your fears? Does he have spies in the spiritual realm sneaking in on the distortions of your soul? I say no. He IS you, and you ARE he. Satan, in the respect I am writing about, IS THE ILLUSION FEAR, the mechanism that fools you into giving up your power. (Giving up power is another illusion because the power is always yours, you are just made to believe it is not.)
This post reminds me of a story I read about the Buddha a while back. One day, the Buddha was meditating under a tree, when Maya, the master of illusion (another satan figure) attacked him. Maya created a barrage of 'missiles' to destroy the Buddha. The Buddha knew this attack was false, so, unmoved by this display, placed his hand onto the grassy earth. Upon doing so, all the missles became beautiful flowers.
Because Buddha understood Maya's nature, because he had mastered himself, he had mastered Maya. Maya/Satan is part of us all, and will use any tactic to keep us in illusion. However, if we remain steadfast in who we really are, and intimately understand our patterns that don't serve us, we will see Satan for who he really is, and alchemically transform him into light that DOES serve us on our path to know ourSelves better.
Do not fight Satan. Fighting Satan means you have already made up in your mind that he is an opponent to be fought, and this very thought ALONE gives him power. Keep your power which has never left you. FOCUS! Focus on who you are: the good and the bad--judge neither. Even when the times get rough, and it seems the illusion is looming over you, ready to consume you, remember who you are. Remember the unspoken. Remember the Source--remember the TRUEST TRUTH of all things, and you can whether the storm; you will transcend all lies.

I like what you convey in this blog. I would also recommend that you look at islam more for understanding this archtype. Catholism has distored the role of satan in the myths there. in Islam satan is the tempt the one that creates teh obstacles so you have to give weaknesses to gain strength. As you put in the end of the blog satan is our ego we give it power to get in our way every day. to stop doing that aligns us to out Self giving us back our power of creation ( divinity.) I also agree that we are not to judge ourselves but to learn from our expressions and continue chosing to make. the more joys we feel from our actions is the only judgement needed. I also say the same for that which we don't like emotions of it. We have the power to change the dream every second we decide to. Not to get distorted with some other debate of what ifs. I explain that as one thing that fits into a room doesn't mean it fits into all rooms, ie bath tub in the living room and a bed in the bath room.
